HC Davos
4:3 (3:1, 0:2, 1:0)
Bílí Tygři Liberec
Tuesday 10.11.2015, 19:45 • Vaillant Arena • Champions League • Round of 16

Well Bili Tygri Liberec can be proud of their performance tonight here in Davos, they threw everything possible at Leonardo Ginoni in the Davos net, but could only manage to beat him three times. They'll have a tough journey home now tonight, but don't have too much time to dwell on it as they're playing on Friday already in the Extraliga.

For Davos I guess you could cal it efficient! 19 shots, 3 of them converted and to be honest, they never looked like panicking. They did seem to be a little sloppy with their passing at times, and will be thankful for their goalie's standout shift, but at the end of the day, they got the hard work done early in the away leg and Liberec could never find a way to get back level.

    Goodnight from Davos. (22:41:52)

    SOG TOTALS.

    DAVOS 19 (8,7,4)
    LIBEREC 47 (16,15,16)

The Davos players all give Leonardo Genoni a big show of appreciation, as he really kept them in this, stopping 44 of the 47 shots he faced!!

    FINAL SCORE

    HC DAVOS 4 (9) – BILI TYGRI LIBEREC 3 (6)

    Game over.

    59:50
This one is now in the books, as the final 10 seconds count down, HC DAVOS are in the 1/4 finals!!

    58:36
The inevitable succession of icings has slowed this one down to a halt now, as the hosts simply fire the puck anywhere they like as soon as they get possesion.

    58:25
The crowd here are all on their feet, and they know their team are now surely marching on to the 1/4 finals to face Skelleftea of Sweden. Only a miracle can stop them now!

    57:20
    GOALIE OUT LIBEREC.
    Dino WIESER - 4:3

    56:33
    Goal for Davos!
DINO WIESER into the empty net, this one is almost certainly over now! Shorthanded once again!

    56:25
2 minutes remain on the powerplay, still 6 on 4.

    55:19
Jelinek's eventful night continues as he takes a puck on the wrist and goes off in agony.

    54:47
    GOALIE OUT.

Liberec are going for this hard, they've removed the goalie with 5 minutes left to play, I like it!

    54:24
#23 Samuel Walser – 2+2 for hooking and unsportsmanlike conduct.

    53:45
Jelinek had a chance in the slot for his hattrick there but couldn't capitalise. He may get another chance now though as Liberec are going on the powerplay.

    53:08
Davos kill off the 76 seconds left on their penalty and we've 7 minutes left, tied at 3.

    51:41
3 on 1 for Davos turns into a 2 on 1 and they don't get it right as Lasak manages to somehow keep the puck out!

    50:59
Back to even strength as Davos are called for a penalty.

#18 Gregory Sciaroni – 2 minutes for hooking.

Sciaroni implying that the Liberec player went down a little too easy.

    49:41
Here is a huge chance for HC Davos to see this one through -

#71 Jaroslav Valsky – 2 minutes for hooking.

    Powerplay Davos.

    49:11
Just under 11 minutes remain here in Switzerland, a quick goal for Liberec with a timeout remaining could see this one turned on it's head, let's see what both teams have left in the tank.

    46:40
Once again a loose break-out pass from Davos goes unpunished, Liberec will surely look back at opportunities missed tonight if the scores remain like this.

    45:00
The hosts will be happy that the first 5 minutes passed so quickly in this final period.

    Today's attendance is 3252.

    42:43
Liberec have once again started the quicker of the two teams, but as yet only have a couple of shots on goal to show.

    40:01
    Start of 3rd period.

It's now or never for Liberec, 20 mins to save this.

It has finished up in Sweden, and Berlin have been defeated 2-1, and therefore knocked out of this years CHL by Skelleftea AIK 7-3 on aggregate.

Tonight's winner will play the strong Swedish outfit in the 1/4 finals.

So 20 minutes remain, and we're back to square one, with Bili Tygri Liberec still needing at least 2 goals to stay in this one and take it to OT, 3 unanswered would win it outright.

You can't deny their effort tonight, out-shooting the hosts by a massive 16 shots over 2 periods!

    Shots on goal:

    HCD 15 (8,7) – Liberec 31(16,15)

Period ends 0-2 for the visitors, and Davos will be happier that the period has ended, as they were under a lot of pressure there in the last minute.

    40:00
    2nd period finished.

    39:51
Huge scramble in front of Genoni, with seemingly all 10 players having a hack at the puck there.

    39:00
Jelinek is in fact back in the game, good news all round there!

    38:00
    Shots so far, Davos 15 (8,7) Liberec 30 (16,14)

    37:21
OFF THE CROSSBAR! Wieser breaks through in the clear, beats Lasak but not the crossbar!

    36:24
I haven't seen double goal scorer Petr Jelinek return to the ice since he was struck with the puck, that's bad news for Liberec. Let's hope it's not too serious.

    35:47
#14 Vampola for the visitors has really stood out this period, will he have a say?

    35:27
This game has suddenly opened right up and we're seeing chances at both ends! Nice save by Genoni there to keep it tied up on the night.

Power-break to give both teams a breather!

    34:54
    OFF THE POST from Davos.

    32:57
Chance for Wieser after a slapper from Schneeberger.

    32:22
Davos can't the powerplay set up here at all.

    31:38
BIG SAVE Genoni on Simek shorthanded.

    31:06
#31 Dominik Lakatos – 2 minutes for elbowing.

    Powerplay Davos.

    30:31
Massive 10 minutes this now for Liberec, they have to take advantage of their momentum.

    29:45
    Goal for Liberec!
Scored by MICHAL PLUTNAR, assisted by Top Scorer, Michal Repik. Plutnar was all alone at the back post and ties this one up at 3. 3-3 on the night, 8-6 on aggregate.

    29:25
OUCH. Double goal scorer Jelinek gets hit in the face with the puck and skates off.

    28:43
The game has really lost it's shape in the last 5 minutes, with nothing of note really taking place.

    24:23
In the meantime Arno Del Curto called a timeout, Davos looking a little sluggish at the start of the 2nd period here.

    24:23
    Goalie change for Liberec.

OUT #3 Marek Schwarz – IN #25 Jan Lasak

    24:23
Ambuehl felt a litle aggrieved there as he took an elbow from Jelinek in the build up to that goal.

    24:23
    Goal for Liberec!
And it's PETR JELINEK again as he back hands it past Genoni. Unassisted. 3-2, 8-5 on aggregate.

    23:44
A couple of sloppy breakout passes from HCD almost let the visitors in there.

    22:39
HUGE CHANCE for Liberec as Vampola misses the open net on a wraparound! Genoni was nowhere to be seen.

    21:45
We mentioned Davos' shorthanded potential in the build up, could that SH penalty shot by Dino Wieser be the key moment of this tie? A chance for Liberec to make it 6-4 turned out swinging to 7-3.

    20:14
Icing Liberec, faceoff in front of their goal.

    20:01
    Start of 2nd period.

2nd period is about to get underway.

Liberec are back on the ice already, they know they have to score, and score early!

2nd period starts in 3 minutes, 20.34 CET.

So the first period ends 3-1 to Davos, have they done enough to hold off the challenge from Liberec? Four goals away from home is a huge ask, but not impossible!

    20:00
    1st period finished.

    19:00
We are in the last minute of the first period now.

    16:00
Davos successfully kill off both penalties.

    13:46
Dino Wieser – 2 minutes for tripping.

    5-on-3 Liberec for 1:16.

    13:02
Penalty for Sven Ryser. Two minutes for holding an opponent. Powerplay for Liberec.
    Mauro JOERG - 3:1

    12:20
    Goal for Davos!
Another goal for the home team! MAURO JOERG from a sharp angle just inside the far post before Lasak could get back. Assisted by Samuel Walser.

3-1 on the night, 8-4 on aggregate.
    Dino WIESER - 2:1

    09:29
    Goal for Davos!
DINO WIESER scores shorthanded, on a penalty shot!

2-1 on the night, 7-4 on aggregate.

    09:29
Penalty shot for Davos! Martin Sevc for hooking on the breakaway. Dino Wieser to take it.

    09:16
Marc Aeschlimann, 2 minutes for slashing.

    08:56
    Goal for Liberec!
Scorer is PETR JELINEK. Unassisted after a scramble in front of Genoni. 1-1, 6-4 on aggregate.

    08:00
The goal was the result of a nice breakout and simple patient passing, good Hockey from Davos!

    07:32
Nice tic-tac-toe play by the visitors forces a save from Genoni.

    05:38
    Goal for Davos!
Scorer is SAMUEL WALSER. Assisted by Dick Axelsson and Andres Ambuehl. 1-0 on the night, 6-3 on aggregate.

    04:22
Chance for Davos as Sciaroni sends a pass towards the net, but his target couldn't get a stick on it.

    04:00
A lot of quick line changes out there in the first few minutes as both teams try to find their feet.

    01:58
#71 Valsky rings one off the post for Liberec

HC Davos in the dark blue shirts, the visitors Bili Tygri Liberec in dark blue shorts and white shirts.

    00:01
    Game started.

The officials are on the ice, the lights have been dimmed and we're awaiting the introduction of the 2 teams, first will be the visitors from the Czech Republic.

Hosts HC Davos start tonight once again with just 6 D, otherwise both teams are at full strength. Davos's new signing, Ex NHL player Devin Setoguchi, is still illegible to play in the Champions league. That's a bit of a shame, he's started well in the NLA, notching 3+3 in his first 6 games with an impressive 25 shots on goal!

    10 minutes to Faceoff.

    Starting lineups:

HC Davos: Genoni (Senn) – Brejcak, Heldner, Forster, Schneeberger, Paschoud, Jung – Ambuehl, Lindgren, D. Wieser – Sciaroni, Walser, Axelsson – Paulsson, Joerg, Simion – Aeschlimann, Kessler, M. Wieser – Ryser, Egli.

Bílí Tygři Liberec: Schwarz (Lasak) – Sevc, Simek, Vitasek, Plutnar, Ulrych, Derner, Vytisk – Vampola, Birner, Jonak – Jelinek, Krenzelok, Vlach – Repik, Valsky, Bakos – Bulir, Stransky, Radivojevic – Lakatos.

Referees: Öhlund, Nord (both SWE) – Tscherrig, Kaderli (both SUI).

Just 2 hours to go until face-off! (19.45 CET)

Bili Tygri Liberec are sitting at the top of the Czech Extraliga, and are also coming into this one with form. Aside from losing their last league match, they'd previously won 5 straight, and a very impressive 10 of their last 11. They'll certainly need to show that form if they are to get a result tonight.

Special teams are always important when it comes to close games, and Davos have some very interesting statistics so far this season.

In 19 league games so far, they've been on the powerplay 69 times, but have only netted 10 times with a miserable 14.49 PP% rate. On the bright side, they've only conceded one shorthanded goal.

In stark contrast to their struggling powerplay, Davos lead the league in both penalty killing and in shorthanded goals. The have managed to net 5 times while being a man down, and have a solid PK% of 85.37 despite conceding the most Powerplays so far this season.

HC Davos currently sit tied for 3rd in the Swiss National league A, have been pretty free scoring leading the way in goals, and come into the match on the back of 5 straight wins (inlcuding the first leg of this tie)

We're eagerly awaiting the lineups for tonight, HC Davos in particular hoping that the International break gave their depleted D enough time to return to full strength. Davos travelled to the Czech Republic for the first leg with only 6 recognised Dmen, until that game, they had always dressed 7 or 8 in their CHL games.

Well we're expecting a cracker this evening up in the Swiss mountains, where the visitors Bili Tygri Liberec will no doubt look to fly out of the blocks to try and eat away at the two goal lead that HC Davos built up last week in the Czech Republic.

The first period will be huge. If the Tigers can score early then it's game on, whereas if Davos notch up one or two in the first 20 minutes, then surely they'll be advancing to the 1/4 finals to face the winner of the Skellefteå AIK – Eisbären Berlin series – The Swedes host Berlin with a 3 goal lead, and are strong favourites to progress. That game faces off 45 minutes before we start up here in Davos, so we'll keep you posted on the outcome there as the evening progresses.

    Welcome. Game starts at 19:45.
