Penalty for Fribourg-Gottéron (Julien Sprunger – 2 min., hooking).

    35:51
Fribourg-Gottéron have hade a very long attack in the offensive zone right now, but they can't draw any advantage of it as they are unable to get into any scoring chances. But they're winning a lot of momentum as the Frölunda players seem quite tired right now.

Much better powerplay by Frölunda this time, but Fribourg still defends their slot very well and Frölunda have to fight hard to get good scoring chances.

    20:01
    Start of 2nd period.

The players are back out on the ice and we're shortly ready for the 2nd period.

Frölunda started the period best, but Fribourg really managed to create a highway into the period by dominating the physical part of the game and thanks to that turned the game over a bit. The guests really dominated the second half of the period and pushed down Frölunda, who almost seemed chocked about how hard and physical Fribourg came out. It will definitely be an interesting follow-up on this game.

1-0 (12:57) | John Nyberg (Matt Donovan, Joel Lundqvist)
1-1 (14:02) | Caryl Neuenschwander (Ralph Stalder, Larri Leeger)

Assists: Matt Donovan and Joel Lundqvist.

    12:20
It's a very high-paced game with A LOT of physical contact. Fribourg has really started to get into this game thanks to the physics, and they're really pushing Frölunda back.

    08:45
A little bit more Fribourg-Gottéron after the first powerbreak as they're forcing down Frölunda in their defensive zone. The guests have gotten a couple of shots towards Johan Gustafsson, but no really dangerous chance yet.

    05:25
Christoffer Ehn (Frölunda) makes a great effort, skating his way all through the Fribourg-Gottéron defence, but never gets to get a really good shot opportunity.

    04:24
The start of the game is energetic and intense where both teams really fight to take command of the game. Both teams show up quite solid defence eventually and there are no real danger so far. But we can already see that this game is going to be very entertaining for the crowd.

    01:26
Great attack by Fribourg ended up with Michal Birner getting a great shot opportunitiy in the slot, but Johan Gustafsson made a great blocker save.

    0:55
Good start by esepcially Frölunda, where Casey Wellman made a great move wrapping around the net to stride a shot, but Benjamin Conz had no problems saving the shot.

    00:01
    Game started.

Both teams are entering the ice here in Frölundaborg and we're just minutes away from game start.

Frölunda is by far the most successful Swedish team for the moment, as they (on top of last season's SHL and CHL Titles) are dominating the Swedish Hockey League with a 12-point lead to 2nd team Växjö Lakers (which however is one of the other three teams still left in this tournament).

Fribourg have had terrible problems in the domestic league, NLA, where they are ranked last by all 12 teams. In Champions Hockey League, however, they've been very fortunate. They won the group with Red Bull Münich and Znojmo Orli and have since eliminated HC Kosice, KalPa Kuopio and Vítkovice Ostrava.

At first glance, Frolunda Gothenburg and Friboug-Gotteron appear to be polar opposites. Frolunda are a perennial powerhouse in Sweden, have advanced to the CHL Final in each of the past two years, won both the CHL and SHL titles last season and are comfortably leading the Swedish league standings so far this season. Fribourg, on the other hand, have never won a national title, are last place in the NLA standings at the moment, and are in the CHL Semi-Finals for the first time. In fact, this is the first time they've been among the last eight teams in any European championship.

But their records in the CHL are quite similar – they'd have to be to have reached this far. Both won their respective groups and both have combined timely offence with stingy defence. The CHL scoring race is topped by four players with 12 points each – Casey Wellman and Joel Lundqvist of Frolunda and Roman Cervenka and Yannick Rathgeb of Fribourg. The overall offensive production of the teams was similar before Frolunda went on a real scoring spree the last couple of rounds. Defensively, Fribourg have allowed 15 goals and Frolunda 16 in 10 games each.

There's no doubt that Frolunda enter this Semi-Final as huge favourites. However, we've seen many unexpected results so far this CHL season, and Fribourg are anxious to prove the nay-sayers wrong.
