USA went to this match after quaterfinal loose 3:4 in extra time with Greece and win in 5-8 qualification 6:3 against Switzerland. Portugal came from crossover games to quaterfinal, where they met Slovakia and lost 0:4. In 5-8 qualification Portugal won 4:3 against India.
