Salzburg played strong in last year's CHL and won their group convincingly against strong opposition, before losing to the later CHL winners Luleå in penalty shots in the first playoff round.
The Austrians are again hungry for CHL-success and coach Dan Ratushny come with a strong and impressive mix of North American imports and strong Austrian players.
Salzburg are up against a SønderjyskE team that looks a lot like the team that won the Danish championship last year, apart from a couple of import players. Some of the key factors tonigth will be the display of Finnish goalie Joni Myllykoski and forwards Cory Quirk and Thomas Spelling who are set to be the strongest individuals in the Danish roster.
The current champions of Denmark and Austria have met twice in European club competitions. In 2006 and 2011 – both games in the Continental Cup, and both times with Red Bull Salzburg as narrow winners.
