With this win Latvia (6 pts) are ahead of Austria (5 pts) and have left the relegation spot in the Helsinki group. Austria now need a little wonder and at least one point later this evening against the current World Champions Russia if they want to stay in the top division.

France had an early goal through Desrosiers at the start of the third period that brought a lot of tension back into this match and France were more than once close to the equalizer before a big mistake by Auvitu gave Latvia the decisive goal through Darzins with less than three minutes left in regulation.

    Shots on goal: Latvia 6 (26) – France 15 (30)

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:33

    Goal for Team Latvia!

Huge turnover inside the French third! Yohann Auvitu lost the puck against Janis Sprukts while trying to get the puck out of the defensive zone nad Sprukts then gave a perfect pass back to the slot from where LAURIS DARZINS scored the decision for Latvia!

    Assisted by Janis Sprukts.

    55:41
Miks Indrasis with a shot from the right circle that goes wide past the crowd in front of the French net and then also the left post.

    55:04
Long clerance by France, the puck lands on the team benches.

    54:27
Janis Sprukts won the puck at the French blue line but together with his team mate against four opponents they had no chance and had to break the attack up.

    53:46
Damien Fleury (France) gets two minutes for hooking.

    53:30
Next opportunity for the French from short distance but again Gudlevskis does a good job.

    52:46
Julien Desrosiers had won the puck at the Latvian blue line but instead of going for a goal himself he gave a pass back to a team colleague who missed the net.

    52:00
It's a game into one direction in this third period and the equalizer looks only like a question of time.

    51:25
After a short distance shot by Bellemare the Latvian goalie Gudlevskis throws himself onto the puck and avoids a rebound.

    Commercial break.

    51:13
Another blue lien shot by the French who increase their pressure significantly and want to force overtime in the remaining minutes.

    48:47
Damien Fleury with a shot from within the slot, blocked to the side by Gudlevskis.

    46:45
I am sure all fans of team Austria are now cheering for the French to force overtime as otherwise Austria would have to collect points against Russia later this evening which would leave them with one and a half feet relegated.

    46:28
    Icing by France.
