Today's KHL game between Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Sibir Novosibirsk brings a clash between two teams that lost in last season's Conference Quarterfinals. Both teams are currently on the bottom half of Eastern Conference. Metallurg's record so far is two wins and OT loss out of four games; Sibir played three games so far with one win and one SO win. Metallurg Mg performance two days ago against Metallurg NK was fine and it finished with 3:1 win for Magnitogorsk. Coach Mike Keenan wasn't happy with too many penalty minutes for his team and says players cannot afford so many shorthanded minutes for their team in future. Both goalies (Koshechkin and Pechursky) did not impress in opening games, but so did not complete defense.
Sergei Gaiduchenko, Sibir goalie holds 93.8 %Sv so far and many hopes of Novosibirsk fans are relying on him. Konstantin Alexeyev spent the most average time on ice for Sibir and 25 year old defenseman is expected to be on duty a lot today too. Coach Dmitri Kvartalnov simply trusts this guy. Another D-man, Alexander Kutuzov will probably also skate a lot.
Sergei Mozyakin (2+3) is on top of Metallurg’s point list so far, Jan Kovar (1+3) and Danis Zaripov (1+3) are also close. Dmitry Kugryshev (2+1) and Jarno Koskiranta (1+2) are the most effective Sibir players so far.
