TPS acquired some interesting players during the summer, for example former NHL-players Henrik Tallinder and Éric Perrin arrive in Turku for the new season. Also after spending 15 years in the NHL and Sweden, Tomi Kallio returns to Turku. 38-year-old Kallio, who was born in Turku, is also the new captain of the team.
- I like the mix we have put together. We have a lot of experience and even more of it later on, when Eric Perrin joins the team. We have a good bunch of eager young guys to accompany the experienced players, a former NHL-goaltender, TPS' GM Antero Niittymäki says.
TPS seems to be a great team on paper, but the team have had some struggles in pre-season games. Turku have played six games this summer and won only two of them. TPS surely has a lot of potential, but there's still much work to do.
- There has been quite a bit of changes. The team is new, coaching staff is new too. It is still a work in progress, as the pre-season exhibitions have shown, but I believe our strengths will start showing on the ice as the games begin properly, Niittymäki admits.
Black Wings Linz also got a lot of NHL experience as they signed Brett McLean from HC Lugano. McLean played almost 400 NHL games in Chicago, Colorado and Florida.
Linz played their first pre-season game on friday, when München Red Bull beat the team 5-2. Linz is surely hungry for success after three consecutive semifinal losses in the Austrian league EBEL. Linz hunts their first CHL win in Turku.
- We know little to nothing about our opponents, so we are going to focus on our game and our system. As an athlete you always look for new challenges. The Champions Hockey League is a new league and will show us where we stand, Linz's captain Philipp Lukas says.

From down low Kallio passes in front to LAURI TUKONEN, who one-times the shot into the net from the top of the crease.
Assisted by: Tomi Kallio, Petteri Nummelin. 1-0
Once again it's Kallio to LAURI TUKONEN with the one-time shot! This time the pass comes from the right wing boards and Tukonen shoots from the top of the slot. Power-play goal.
Assisted by Toni Kallio. 2-0.
LAURI TUKONEN finishes his hattrick! Nice wristshot to the top corner of the net. Assisted by: Tadas Kumeliauskas, Tomi Kallio. It was Kallio's third assist of the game. 3-0
JERRY AHTOLA scores at the same time TPS' penalty ends. Goaltender TEEMU LASSILA passes the puck to Ahtola who takes the puck to the offence zone and shoots it pass Ouzas. 4-0
HARRI TIKKANEN shoots on powerplay to the left corner of the net and scores! VILLE-VESA VAINIOLA assisted the goal.
ROB HISEY deflects Marc-Andre Dorin's shot to the net. Olivier Latendresse is the second assistant of this power play goal. 5-1
ILKKA PIKKARAINEN gets the puck and shoots high! Ouzas isn't able to stop the shot. Dave Spina passes the puck to Pikkarainen even though he was laying on the ice.
- They were much better than us. They deserved the win and 6-1 is probably fair based on the game.
- I think the only positive things for us is that it's 20th August, not 20th January and nobody got hurt. It's the second game this year and we want to progress every game, which we didn't this time. That's what we'll do on Saturday in Düsseldorf.
TPS' head coach Ari-Pekka Selin:
- I'm proud of our team. The preparations were very good today and the start of the game was good. We have been together only two or three weeks and it's important to start like this at home. And of course our first line was strong.
- Teemu Lassila played a very good game today. Linz's forwards were very dangerous and played straight to the net. (20:52:28)
