    The historical first puck drop of the new Champions League will take place in ČEZ Arena, Ostrava. This stadium in the third-largest city in the Czech republic is the home of HC Vítkovice Steel, which hosts German league title holder ERC Ingolstadt in the opening game in this competition. Both of these teams play in Group H. The other teams in this group are EV Zug and SaiPa Lappeenranta.

    HC Vítkovice is not a unknown term in hockey Europe. Vítkovice played three times at international tournament Spengler Cup, placed third twice in a row in 2011 and 2012. Vítkovice has already played six pre-season matches and won half of them. One of them was against another CHL team Oceláři Třinec, one of the biggest rivals of Vítkovice. Vítkovce won 3:2.

    ERC Ingolstadt, also known as Panthers, comes to this match after the most successful season in club history. Having played in Deutsche Eishockey Liga DEL only since 2002, in previous campaign, they managed to won the trophy by overcoming another CHL team Kölner Haie. Panthers had shorter preason than opponent from Ostrava, played only two matches, but won both of them.
