0:3 (0:0, 0:1, 0:2)
Lukko Rauma
Sunday 24.08.2014, 17:45 • O2 World Hamburg • Champions League

Lukko Rauma has now won 4-2 over Nottingham and 3-0 over the Freezers. The Hamburg Freezers have lost 4-1 to Lulea and of course now 3-0 to Lukko Rauma and are clearly showing problems in scoring goals to this young point in the competition. (20:11:55)

The game has concluded in a 3-0 victory for Lukko Rauma. The first period was very even and concluded 0-0, but after that there was little the Freezers could do to create any sustained attack and seriously place Lukko under pressure. Lukko on the other hand was able to create some better opportunities and capitalize on the 3 of them. The 2nd goal appears to have been back breaker – it wasn't very clear that the goal was even scored.

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:09
Time is winding down and the Freezers have found themselves icing the puck.

    55:37
No quit in this Hamburg club as they spend a good 30 seconds churning and battling in Lukko's zone, but just can't get pucks to the net.

    54:45
Lukko continues to show more puck possession and is playing as if there's no more doubt they'll be victorious today.

    53:27
There's a stoppage in play. Hamburg looks desperate, but little is happening. Lukko is playing with a great deal of confidence at this point.

    52:17
Excellent shorthanded opportunity for Lukko set up by a charging Sipilainen stopped by Caron (HAM).

Number 6 Ilkka Mikkola (LUK) goes to the box for slashing.

    42:50

    40:39
    Goal for Lukko!
A scrambled play apparently leads to a Lukko goal that will count and it's 2-0. TEEMU NURMI gets credit for it. Assisted by Aaron Gagnon.

    40:25
Kevin Schmidt (HAM) walks in from the point and fires a difficult shot to stop on goal, but to no avail.

    40:01
    Start of 3rd period.

The 3rd period is about to start and the Freezers desperately need to score if they're going to prevent the second Nordic team from going home with the points within 3 nights.

A fairly even match to this point has Lukko up 1-0 after two periods of play. Neither team has had more than a handful of chances at this point and although Lukko has been showing a bit more in the puck-possession department, the Freezers have been responsible for most of the game's big checks.

    37:13
Roy (HAM) goes to the penalty box for interference.

    36:55
Vauhkonen (LUK) has been a beast in protecting the puck along the boards. Keeps opponents to the outside just about any time he has the puck.

    35:36
MONSTER hip check by Brett Festerling (HAM) sent the Lukko attacker flying, full body in the air, into the boards behind the Freezers' goal.

    35:05
Some nifty goalmouth opportunities by Mitchell, Jakobsen, and Pettinger (all HAM) almost get Hamburg back into this one, but remain scoreless.

    33:48
Frederik Cabana (HAM) has a partial breakaway and then 10 seconds later a nice opportunity in front of the net turned aside by Zapolski (LUK).

    32:40
Stoppage in play leads to the KissCam search for victims.

    32:40
Lukko's shot from the point is tipped towards the net by what looked like a high stick. Faceoff ensuing.

    32:27
Back and forth game is showing that both teams can break out and enter the opponent's zone well.

    30:40
Lukko Rauma failed to score or even create much sustained pressure on its power play.

    30:40
    Home team at full strength.

    28:40
Adam Mitchell (HAM) goes to the box for slashing.

    27:53
A good 30 seconds of sustained pressure by the Freezers ends

    24:50

Assisted by Jerry Ahtola and Olavi Vaukhonen

    24:50
Kousa (LUK) uses the few bodies in front of the net to slip a defty and direct wrist shot right by Caron (HAM) on the glove side. That puck had eyes and gets Lukko what seems to be an all-important lead in this game. They're going to video replay.

    23:31
The next big opportunity, a wrist shot by Tikkanen (LUK), is blocked and then covered up by Caron (HAM).

    18:05

    17:46
Lukko's Jerry Ahtola just got the game's best offensive opportunity after a nice pass right in front of the net!

    16:24
After some good mid-ice puck movement, the Freezers find themselves off-sides.

    15:21
Both teams continue to test each other carefully although few dangerous offensive opportunities have been created by either club.

The line-ups have been announced, the lights are now out, and the music is blasting
Hamburg fan is wishing for better luck than his team had last time. "Another game day for Hamburg, I hope they'll get a better result today."

This is the second game in Group K for both of these teams. On Friday, Hamburg fell 4-1 on home ice to Lulea hockey, while Lukko Rauma won 4-2 in Nottingham. Hamburg's goal as scored by Adam Mitchell, who will wear the Top Scorer jersey today. For Lukko it will be Aaron Gagnon, who also scored a goal.

This is an especially big game for Hamburg, as they don't want to drop a second straight home game and find themselves pointless a third of the way through the group stage. Lukko, meanwhile, has a great opportunity to grab a second straight road win and put themselves competing for first place.

One interesting note is that Hamburg's Philippe Dupuis, who received a Match Penalty in Friday's game, has had the automatic one-game suspension rescinded by the CHL's Disciplinary Committee and will be able to play in this game.
